DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAWN TIMBERS AND CLEFT TIMBERS

  1. SAWN TIMBERS

THE MOST POPULAR PINE AND SPRUCE TIMBERS ARE USED FOR FENCING, BULDING AND JOINERY TIMBERS  – THESE TIMBERS ARE SAWN OR MOULDED .

THE TIMBER IS MADE UP OF CELLS .  WHEN THESE CELLS ARE BROKEN WITH A SAW, MOULDER OR PLANER  – UNFORTUNATELY THIS BREAKS DOWN THE NATURAL WATER PROOFING OF THE TIMBER.   THE GRAIN HAS BEEN BROKEN

AS A RESULT OF THE GRAIN OF THE TIMBER BEING BROKEN , THERE IS THEREFOR A NEED THEN TO TANALISE PRESSURE TREAT THE TIMBER .

WE RECOMMEND JON WALKER TIMBER GOLD TREATMENT.TO 25 YEAR WARRANTY

PLEASE REFER STOCK CODES SAW009AZ1, AW009AZ4,SAW009AN1SAW009AK.,SAW009AC1

MTP001 TO MTP028

  1. COPPICED CLEFT CHESTNUT TIMBERS

THE MOST POPULAR TIMBERS USED FOR CLEAVING  ARE SWEET CHESTNUT , HAZEL AND OAK.

THESE TIMBERS ARE USED FOR RURAL FENCING AND JOINERY PROJECTS

CLEAVING OR CLEFT TIMBERS MEAN SPLITTING WITH THE GRAIN , AND THEREFORE RETAINING THE NATURAL WATER PROOFING F THE TIMBER BECAUSE THE GRAIN AND CELL STRUCTURE OF THE TIMBER HAS NOT BEEN BROKEN

PLEASE REFER CHESTNUT FENCING STOCK CODES CHF0001 TO CHF 014A

AND RUSTIC POSTS AND RAILS  STOCK CODES CHFRUS TO CHFRUS2

AND CHESTNUT /HAZEL PALES AND POSTS STOCK CODES CHP000 TO CHP056H

THERE IS NO REAL NEED TO TREAT CLEFT TIMBERS AS THESE CAN LAST UP TO 20/25 YEARS .

HOWEVER WHEN THESE TIMBERS ARE CUT / HARVESTED

  • THE BEST TIME TO HARVEST IS WHEN THE SAPWOOD IS AT ITS LOWEST BETWEEN SEPTEMBER AND MARCH .
  • THE LESS SAPWOOD IN THE TIMBER THE LONGER IT WILL LAST
  • SOME SUMMERCUT IS CARRIED OUT BUT NOT BY JON WALKER TIMBER
  • SUMMER CUT WILL NOT LAST AS LONG AS WINTER CUT
  • SO BE WISE AND ASK FOR YOUR CHESTNUT TO BE WINTER CUT .

AT JON WALKER TIMBER WE HARVEST BETWEEN SEPTEMBER AND MARCH AND CLEAVE THE

CHESTNUT INTO PALES , POSTS , RAILS  AND NEW TRADITIONAL PRODUCT DEER ESTATE

FENCING WITH CLEFT POSTS RAILS AND CLEFT FLAT PALES .

WE PEEL THE CHESTNUT PARTICULARLY PALES AND POSTS TO MAKE IT LOOK CLEANER AND MORE PRESENTABLE BUT BEING CAREFUL NOT TO SAW CUT  THE GRAIN, BUT CLEAVE WITH THE GRAIN.
